Reading is an essential life skill which enables our children to reach their full potential. As a school, we understand our role in supporting our young learners to develop their reading and encourage them to take advantage of the opportunities that being able to read well will open for them in their future lives. We also recognise how important it is for us to foster a love of reading, enabling our children to take enjoyment from the world around them.
As your child/ren move through our school, we provide structured phonics and reading sessions and activities to support them on this journey. We use the DfE-approved Twinkl phonics reading scheme at NKS. Please refer to our ‘Whole School Reading Overview’ document to see the extent of what we do within school to help children learn to read.
Your support as parents is vital as early vocabulary development and enjoyment of books can really help to boost a child’s early reading. We encourage all families to share books daily with their children.
It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.
