• Vision and Culture

We have collaborated with the children, parents, staff, and governors to review and improve our values and culture at NKS.

The word cloud above summarises these discussions on what we think the perfect school for our community should encompass.

If you would like to see a summary of the parent survey looking at our vision and culture and other key aspects of school life, please visit our survey page.

During our evaluation, it became apparent that all our actions should be underpinned by the value of kindness. We developed our behaviour policy around this core value.

At North Kidlington School we are:

    • Kind to ourselves

    • Kind to others

    • Kind to the environment

When you visit North Kidlington, our aim is that you will find us to be welcoming, respectful, calm, and engaged in our learning.  We know that when children have worries or concerns, they may exhibit changes in their behaviour and so we work closely with families and other agencies to help children where this is the case.

For more information on how we support children and families please visit our SEND and Safeguarding pages.

Having an engaging and relevant curriculum is very important to us and we have been working hard for several years to make our lessons sequenced, practical and absorbing. We have also worked hard to ensure that learning links directly to the national curriculum and that lessons are clear and carefully planned to aid the retention of knowledge and skills.

    Our Curriculum Intent

Our childhood years are incredibly precious. Children need to be allowed to be curious and grow from the mistakes they make. Children need to be inspired to love the world they live in and to want to make a difference. Children deserve to have fun.

We want so much for our children: we want them to be happy and achieve their goals and dreams. We want them to enjoy learning because they are inspired and because they want to bring out the best in themselves.

Our curriculum is all about heart. All about enjoyment.

We understand the importance of our role as a school and have designed a unique curriculum that meets both the needs of the National Curriculum and those of the children. At North Kidlington we provide an exciting, thoughtful and ambitious education for all the children in our school.

Through varied learning experiences and practical activities, we aim to equip our children with the necessary knowledge, skills and learning behaviours that will support them throughout life. Key knowledge, concepts and core skills are embedded through a creative, meaningful and reflective curriculum that makes learning fun and forms purposeful connections between subjects, within our community and the world around us.  All children are valued, nurtured and celebrated for their personal and collaborative achievements

We believe schools should deliver a well-rounded education for children and that equity can be provided through experiences and opportunities. Every class goes on at least three school trips a year, and these trips are linked to the learning in class. We deliver a highly practical Design and Technology (DT) curriculum where children learn to cook, sew, and use tools from age 5. Furthermore, all our children in KS2 (ages 7-11) receive weekly recorder lessons during the school day at no additional cost to parents. We are also very proud to have been awarded the School Games Gold award for several years for the quantity and breadth of sporting activities we offer the children.

Finally, we ensure that the Department for Education’s British Values are woven through our curriculum and school day to aid our children in becoming valued citizens as they grow up. For an outline of how and where we do there, please visit our British Values page.
